Luxury vinyl is a flooring favorite among homeowners because it is versatile and practical. The floor covering does a great job, too, of imitating more costly flooring materials. Luxury vinyl planks, available in many lengths and widths, mimic a wide variety of domestic and exotic hardwood species. Tiles imitate hardwood, ceramic, and stone. Mainland Flooring has been offering a large assortment of vinyl flooring styles to South Jersey area residents since 2001. We partner with top companies like Shaw and Mohawk.

Wear layer

Luxury vinyl planks and tiles have four layers. The top layer is called the wear layer; this determines the flooring's durability since it protects the high-tech design layer. This top layer resists scratches, scuffs, and stains. A 20+ mil wear layer is best for high traffic areas. Luxury vinyl flooring is pet-friendly, and some companies even offer brands that are designed for pet owners.

Core layer

The backing layer supports the core layer. If the flooring has a wood plastic composite core or a stone plastic composite core, it is waterproof. Wood-based WPC flooring and limestone-based SPC flooring are warm underfoot in all seasons. This waterproof flooring is not damaged even if exposed to moisture or water for long periods.

Installation

Interlocking planks and tiles are designed for floating floor installation. Since flooring needs no attachment to a subfloor, it can easily be installed over existing hard surface flooring and cement slabs. Underlayment enhances flooring performance. Some luxury vinyl flooring, especially tile, is designed for glue-down installation.
